Have you signed a candidate for the Rathbone Celebration? We can best honor our founder, Justus H. Rathbone, by initiating more members into the Knights of Pythias. Brother Rathbone founded an Order with the high ideals of Friendship, Charity, and Benevolence, and he authored a beautiful Ritual to impart those ideals to future generations. All his efforts, and the work of countless other Brothers who followed, will be worthless if we let the Order dwindle away to NOTHING.

Several members of Crescens Lodge #33 recently visited the

for everyone, and well worth the effort to travel a few miles on a cold night.

The 22nd annual Knights of Pythias Holiday Festival, sponsored by Crescens Lodge #33, opened on Saturday October 15th with the auditorium at Memorial Park filled with vendors for the Bazaar. The Brothers from Crescens prepared a Pork Bar-B-Q lunch with several side dishes, and sales were very successful. On Sunday morning, the volunteers from Crescens prepared and served a hearty breakfast of biscuits and sausage gravy, which was a complete sell-out. The Chili Cook-off had several entries, and all the chili was eagerly consumed by the lunchtime crowd. Grand Prelate Richard Neal won first place, Brother David Cook placed third and fourth with two entries, Brother Keith Goff placed fifth, and Grand Inner Guard Rod Gardner claimed ninth place honors. The Car Show was the best ever, with perfect weather, and a record setting 114 entries. All the proceeds from the weekend will go the New Castle Firefighters Children's Christmas Fund.

SUPREME LODGE POSTER CONTEST
Photos of the top three winning posters can be viewed at http://pythianinternational.com/specials/Contest.htm.
Jesse Edwards, a Junior at Winchester Community High School, and the representative of Crescens Lodge #33 and the Grand Domain of Indiana, captured the Supreme Lodge Poster Contest first place title! Jesse placed 6th in the contest last year and his poster about "bullying" must have caught the eye of the judges as it won first place money of $1,000 for Jesse. Crescens Lodge #33 staged a dinner on Tuesday, September 27th with a nice crowd on hand to attend this grand celebration! New Castle Mayor James Small proclaimed the day "Jesse Edwards Day" and issued a proclamation to be read. Supreme Prelate and National Poster Chairman Keith Stooksberry and his wife PSC Sheila were present representing the Supreme Lodge. Following his comments, Indiana State Director of Youth Activity PGC David Hensel was called forward to make the $1,000 presentation to Jesse. MC/SR Dennis Adams also presented Jesse a plaque from Crescens Lodge for his championship. Dale Hardacre, Art instructor at Winchester Community High School, was called forward and surprised with not only a plaque of appreciation from Crescens Lodge but was also given the Supreme Lodge Medal of Honor for his contributions to the poster contest. Hardacre is believed to be the only 6 time winning instructor in the history of the contest. Jesse and Dale were supported by having the principal, assistant principal, band director, and choir director in attendance from the school. Grand Vice Chancellor Michael Deaton led a contingent of Grand Lodge officers including Grand Prelate Richard Neal, Grand Secretary Ralph Willis and Grand Outer Guard Jerry Weilenman. Also present were PGC's Larry Bartley; LaRue Cross (GT); and Richard Messer; SR Maridene Adams, and GT Beverly Deaton. There were 33 in attendance. It was a marvelous evening! Contributed by SR Dennis Adams

Supreme Lodge Membership Poster and Business Card
Supreme Chancellor Edwin Wright has sent communication to all Grand Lodges regarding the efforts to gain new members. He states: "The time has come for the Knights of Pythias to be recognized and known for the outstanding work that we do". The Supreme Council has announced a new membership initiative that will give recognition to the Knights of Pythias and assist in obtaining new members. They have designed a new poster and a membership business card. Both contain many of the programs and activities that are of interest to prospective members. The poster emphasizes that the K of P has raised and donated more than $200 million to help needy people, to fund medical research, and for charitable and community causes as well as supporting our troops. The posters and cards are now available from the Supreme Secretary, and they can be customized for any local or grand lodge. Also planned is a universal membership week, called PR (Pythian Recruitment) Week, for the purpose of focusing all our efforts on gaining new members.

Never before, have I really understood what the order of the Knights of Pythias meant. I thought I did.
On
I say, nearly, because all of my friends in the Pythian order came to me with candles of kindness and hope and helped keep my light from being extinguished. Everyone of my Brothers and Sisters in little and large ways kept me continuing when I wanted to quit and not care anymore. I can’t express enough how much each and every one of you mean to me. Roni’s Pythian services were very well done, and there were so many Sisters and Brothers there that I truly knew at that moment what she meant to you all and what it means to be a Pythian. Now I truly know what it means.
