Introduction:
Pythian Sisters is a fraternal order with members throughout the United
States and Canada. We honor the Holy Bible and all religions but are aligned
with none. The Flags of our two Countries have important roles in our
meetings but we have no political agenda.
The Order, an independent auxiliary of the Honorable Order of the Knights
of Pythias, was founded on October 23, 1888 with the institution of our
first temple, located in Warsaw, Indiana.
The Fraternal Order of the Knights of Pythias boasts a beautiful ritual
based on the remarkable story of the boundless friendship between two
men of ancient times - Damon and Pythias. Its founding took place in 1864
in Washington, D.C., with the institution of its first lodge, chartered
by an act of the United States Congress, on the order of President Abraham
Lincoln, in his desire to find a means to ease the human conflict and
suffering created by the Civil War.
